Know the limits
- Not a liquid barrier. SMS sheds only a light splash. For splash, use the Microporous Coverall.
- Not for infectious agents or hazardous liquids.
- Not flame resistant. Do not wear near open flame, sparks, welding or other hot work.
- A coverall is one part of your PPE. For fiber and fine dust, choose a respirator suited to the hazard.
SMS coverall FAQ
What does SMS stand for?
Spunbond, meltblown, spunbond: three nonwoven polypropylene layers bonded together. The two outer spunbond layers give strength and the fine meltblown layer in the middle filters particles.
Is SMS better than polypropylene?
For fine dust, yes. SMS catches finer dry particles and holds up better. Polypropylene is lighter, cooler and cheaper, so it wins for dirt, grime and visitor use.
When should I choose microporous instead?
When liquid is involved. SMS is a dry-dust fabric. The microporous coverall adds a film layer that stops light liquid splash, at the cost of more heat build-up.
Which coverall is best for removing attic insulation?
SMS or polypropylene, hooded, with boots. Insulation work is dry and hot, so breathability matters. In the hottest attics, the Vent Coverall adds a breathable back panel. See our insulation guide.
