Keeping the outside out
Contamination and allergen cross-contact
Street clothes carry dirt, hair, fibers and allergens onto the production floor. A clean outer layer is the simplest fix for people who aren't in your uniform program.
Visitors and auditors
Customer tours, third-party audits and inspections all bring people in on short notice. You need a stock of suits in every size, not a scramble.
Contractors and maintenance
Outside mechanics, electricians and HVAC crews work in and above the production area, and stir up dust and debris while they do it.
Wet floors and washdown
Sanitation crews work in water, foam and cleaning solution. That's a job for a splash barrier, and for boots or waterproof shoe covers.

What the regulation says
Under FDA's current good manufacturing practice rule, personnel who work with food or food-contact surfaces must wear outer garments suitable for the operation, to protect against allergen cross-contact and contamination of food.

The same rule calls for hair restraints such as hair nets, headbands, caps or beard covers where they are needed. A hooded coverall covers the head, but plants often still require a hairnet underneath.

Coveralls aren't a replacement for your uniform program
Most plants outfit line workers in frocks, smocks or laundered uniforms, and that's usually the right choice for daily production staff. A disposable coverall fills a different gap: the people who are in the plant for a day or a shift and don't have a uniform.
- Visitors and auditors. Put on at the door, thrown away on the way out.
- Outside contractors. Keeps their work clothes off your floor.
- Sanitation and turnaround crews. One suit per person per shift, no laundering.
- Colors on request. White is stocked. Other colors are available on request for zone coding.
Know the limits
- Disposable coveralls are single-use. Don't launder and reuse them.
- Not flame resistant. Keep them away from open flame, sparks and hot work such as welding on repairs.
- Only the microporous coverall is certified (Type 5 & 6). Ask your QA team what your program requires before you choose.
- We don't sell coveralls as approved for food areas. Your food safety plan decides what is acceptable.

Which coverall do most food plants use for visitors?
Polypropylene, hooded, with shoe covers. It's light, cool and economical enough to hand out by the dozen. Step up to SMS if the visit is dusty.
Can I get colored coveralls for zone control?
Yes. White is stocked and other colors are available on request. Tell us the colors, sizes and quantities.
Do you have hairnets, shoe covers and gloves?
Shoe covers (CPE and polypropylene) and gloves (nitrile and poly-dipped) are available on request. Ask us about anything else your program requires. See shoe covers and gloves.
What do you use for sanitation crews?
The microporous coverall with attached boots handles light splash and washdown mist. It is not for high-pressure spray or heavy saturation.
